NAMHSA - June 1-15, 2010 News

NAMHSA News for the period of June 1-15, 2010 based on the minutes recorded by Bobbi Devine, NAMHSA Recording Secretary.

JUNE 1
--Bobbi Devine (Recording Secretary) submitted the May 16-31, 2010 minutes.
These were approved.

JUNE 2
--Lindsey Hall (President) requested a new volunteer to head the Judging Handbook Committee. Carra McClelland offered, and will now be the new chair of the committee.

--Valerie Parker (R10 Representative, MSOTY Chair) notified the Board that 9 shows were nominated for 2010 MSOTY. They are:

Carolina Gold Classic
Cookeville Classic
Model Horses Anonymous III
Models in the Sunshine
Northwest Expo
Region 10 Regionals
Show for the Cure Live
So Cal Spring Live
Tri State Live Mini Show

Valerie said that the MSOTY panel had selected the three finalists. A poll was underway to select the winner.

--Lindsey Hall notified the Board of a small issue with the NAN cookies (trophy heads). The backs are smooth, and will require gluing by Aulds to adhere them to the plaques, instead of double-faced tape. Gluing will make removal difficult for future recycling of the cookies. An amended contract will need to be drawn up so that MVS can include roughing up the backs of the cookies to accept the double-faced tape for future runs.

--Lindsey Hall posted the latest Board agenda:

1. NAN items - entry window closed, class list being set
2. NAN 2011 - under discussion
3. Judging Handbook Committee
4. Fees for late show applications - tabled
5. 2010 elections - done
6. Junior IM/Merit Award programs
7. MSOTY contest - underway
8. NAMHSA Facebook page
9. Online ballots/voting
10. Merchant account - Carmen's waiting on credit card machine
11. Nondisclosure form
12. Allowing fantasy equines in collectibility/workmanship

--Danielle Miller (Individual Membership Secretary) requested to add a discussion of Individual Membership period vis a vis NAN entry to the agenda, as well as a discussion of how to handle future packing and shipping of NAMHSA's NAN items. Lindsey acknowledged this and added these topics to the agenda.

JUNE 3
--Lindsey Hall requested a poll be set up to select the location of NAN 2011. The choices are Houston, TX, Tucson, AZ, and San Jose, CA. Poll was started the same day.

JUNE 4
--Lindsey Hall posted some issues related to the NAN raffle. Discussion ensued.

JUNE 6
--Pauline Entin (Public Relations) reminded the Board that in 2008, NAMHSA placed several ads in the Breyerfest program.

--Pauline Entin uploaded documents containing copies of 2008 NAN files that may be helpful for current and future NANs.

REGIONAL REPORTS

Region 1 (Tracy Eilers)
May was a fairly quiet month for Region 1. Amy Peck held another of her wonderful shows, and this time the biggest and littlest guys had their day in the spotlight at her Draft and Pony Show! We are looking forward to a few more shows in June along with some more sunshine and warm temps!

Hello All!
South Florida Live was held Mother's Day weekend in Pompano, FL. While the show was small in number of entrants, it was BIG on competition and fun! The judges did an awesome job of moving the show along, and we all had a wonderful time. For a few Floridians, this is the only show in our region that they can attend, so we are appreciative that the showholder continues to hold this show. Heart of Carolina Live was scheduled for May 15, but had to be postponed.
There are no shows scheduled for June or July, as folks in the region are getting ready for NAN and Breyerfest.

Region 7 (Heather Jackson-Lain)
May was a slow month for Region 7 nothing much happening down here. Our next show up looks to be the 8th incarnation of Big Orange Bash in Knoxville, TN. This show always is a load of fun and a good last prep for NAN and Breyerfest festivities!!!

May was a quiet month in Region 10, with only one show being held. CT River Classic was held May 22 in East Haddam, CT. The show was well-attended with good competition. From reading the reports from the show, it sounds like everyone had a great time. June is a busier month in Region 10, with 3 shows June 5-6: Factory Ponies Live, China Buffet, and NEMHC all being held in Spencer, MA. There is also an all novice show being held June 26 in Concord, NH.
