NAMHSA - August 1-15, 2012 News

NAMHSA News for the period of August 1-15, 2012, based on the minutes compiled by Jackie Arns-Rossi, Recording Secretary.

AUGUST 1
-Jackie Arns-Rossi (Recording Secretary) submitted the July 16-31, 2012 minutes report.

-Teresa Buzzell (President) called for a vote to accept Nichole Hertzog as the NAN 2013 chair. A poll was set up by Jackie Arns-Rossi to end August 5.

-Teresa Buzzell made a final call for input on the Fundraising Coordinator job description.

-Terese Buzzell posted the Board Agenda:

Agenda:

From Silke's last agenda:
1. Finish up the Fundraising Coordinator position - approve the job description & advertise
2. MSOTY - year round solicitation for shows?
3. Merit Awards - New Award levels
NEW:
4. NAN Recap - appraisal of the new judge may show by proxy policy, financials, etc
5. NAN Card/Results Changes - missing/late NAN results page and/or posting, standardizing results format, etc

-Carra McClelland (R4 Representative) reviewed what financial information the organization is legally required to release publicly compared to what is currently available publicly, and some reasons behind the few differences.

AUGUST 2
-Pauline Entin (R3 Representative) noted that only one more vote was needed in the poll to confirm Nichole Hertzog as 2013 NAN Chair, and said possibly the poll could close earlier than scheduled.

-Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) drafted an announcement for the NAN Chair.

-Discussion continued about the Fundraising Coordinator position, including comparisons to the Auction Chair, and if an auction should be continued in the future. It was noted that while an auction could still be held with NAN, the purpose of the Fundraising Coordinator would be to deal with year round fundraising, not just a single event.

-Beth Lamm (Merit Awards Coordinator) posted to the Regional lists regarding the success of the Merit Award Drive at NAN/Breyerfest.

AUGUST 3
-Jackie Arns-Rossi closed the poll to approve Nichole Hertzog as 2013 NAN Chair. Nichole was approved for the position by majority vote of the Board.

-Cara McClelland posted an email from Jim West (Registrar for NAN 2011 & 2012) about the rationale behind being much stricter in dealing with incomplete/invalid NAN cards during NAN entry.

-NAN card discussion evolved into discussing a national database that would allow using tickets to cease.

REGIONAL REPORTS:
Region 1 (Tracy Eilers):
July didn't have any shows out here in Region 1 this month, but we had some folks travel out to NAN and Breyerfest in Kentucky. Congratulations to all the winners at NAN! Photos and results show that it was a tough competition this year! The BF reports say that this year was one of the best yet with the fun theme and amazing special models available.

Coming up next month is Mid-Valley Classic in Albany, OR on August 18th. This show is held by Cheryl Wood and is always a great time! We also have Sweet Onion Live on August 19th up in Walla Walla, WA. This show is held by Shana Bobbitt, and looks to be a wonderful show as well. What an action-packed weekend!

-----

Region 2 (Tom Dean):
No shows to report in the region for July. A few hardy souls from the region managed the longgggg trek to Kentucky for NAN, Breyerfest and Equilocity.

Next up, Delta Stampede on Aug 26th in Stockton, CA hosted by Cindy Ruth. Hope to see everyone there.

-----

Region 3 (Pauline Entin):
Well, the weather feels like summer, but here in Arizona, the kids are already back in school. There were no NAMHSA member shows in Region 3 in July, but we did have some travel-hardy Region 3'ers at NAN. Congratulations to all of you for making the cross country trek to show off your wonderful models! We're disappointed that NAN 2013 won't return to the West, but hope for the best in Pennsylvania. August has brought the return of member shows - in Colorado. Teresa Fedak iis hosting her Red Devil series, one as held August 4th, for OF plastic, and the next is August 18th, for OF china/resin and CG china. Next up is Rocky Mountain Rondez-Vous, September 8th up in the mountains. Hopefully it won't snow! The next show in Arizona isn't until late October, when we'll have the return of Tucson Mountain Live in Tucson.

Enjoy the warm (hot?) days and outdoor activities of summer, everyone.

Region 8 (Chris Wallbruch):
Hello folks! I'm thrilled to be the new rep for Region 8 and hope that I prove useful to the showers in this very fine region! :) Couple of things...

First - Thank you to our outgoing Representative, Marilou Mol, who did an outstanding job being a voice for our region for so many years! You have some big shoes to fill, but I'll do my best!

Second - Congratulations to all of the Region 8 showers who went to NAN and brought home many ribbons and cookies! I heard our showers' names called out many times and was so pleased by how well our Region did. Way to go, Region 8 showers!

Third - If you are on FaceBook, please take a minute to join the brand new Region 8 FB page! It's been an active place with lots of great ideas, and is turning into quite the hangout! Come and join us at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/groups/298022553628867/ (if that doesn't work, just do a search on Region 8 NAMHSA).

Finally - We had no shows in July, but there are a TON coming up in the fall, so please take a second to mark your calendars...

There were no shows in the month of July for Region 9. Congrats to all winners at NAN!

The fall schedule is coming up fast and the annual favorites usually sell out early. Don't wait!!

-----

Region 10 (Kate Cabot):
There were no shows in Region 10 in July, though I did see a few of you in Kentucky for NAN and BreyerFest. August is a traditionally quiet month in Region 10 but this year there is one show (the beginning of a new show series to benefit The Region X Championships) to be held at my home in Prides Crossing, MA-- MORE FUN LIVE: Performance on the Porch. Stay tuned for more shows in the series to follow in the fall, winter and spring.

September begins our busy fall season with Baystate Halter Live on September 8th in Spencer, MA, the End of Summer Cool Down (Intermediate Show) in Concord, NH on September 15th and TRXC Benefit show, Park Color Craze Live in Ithaca, NY on September 30th.

-----

Region 11 (Terri Wright):

July was a quiet month in Region 11, with no shows to report. Look for the August news for updates on two popular annual shows. We still hear murmurings for a possible fall show, so stay tuned!
