Oct 2
-- Tom Dean (pres) approved the September 16-30 minutes.

-- Tom Dean (pres) advised the BOD that he had an email out to the 2015 NAN venue asking about security and switching the room to the A/B section. He reported that extra Internet connections could be canceled prior to the event.

Oct 4
-- Pauline Entin (R3) asked what dates were under discussion for NAN 2015, and agreed with not keeping the block of hotel rooms.

Oct 5
-- Sharon Mossy (R10) asked to confirm that Ride for the Pride 4H show in PA was a NAN qualifier, as it was not listed on the website. Lynn Weber (R5 and web) confirmed that it was, and she would get it on the site later that day.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) advised that the refund for NAN had been sent on 9/26. Teresa Buzzell (VP) thanked Carmen and suggested that future shows have a deadline for all refund requests.

-- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) reposted a post from Facebook by Joyce Savage, requesting contact information to Tom Dean (pres). Jackie requested Tom respond to her and asked what the best method of contact was for Tom.
Tom responded with his Yahoo email address and mailing address.

-- There was discussion on the hotel contract and what it ought to be. Teresa Buzzell (VP) made a suggestion for the BOD to discuss.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) approved the draft of the Show Secretary solicitation, and asked for an application deadline of November 15.

Oct 6
-- Jackie Moore (R6) brought the topic of voting for the forum as the official communication format for the BOD back to the table, asking if adding notifications helped.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) posted the August financial summary:

August 2014 Summary
Balance in BOA checking as of 8/31/2014: 82,111.50
Balance in PayPal as of 8/31/2014: 475.88
Balance in NAMHSA accounts as of 8/31/2014: 82,587.38

-- Tom Dean (pres) approved the posting of the Show Secretary position.

Oct 7
-- Lynn Weber (R5 and web) asked for an update on the tagging system/national database.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) reported that Yashka Hallein (2014 NAN chair) had requested payment of her stipend. Carmen asked if there were any loose ends that Yashka needed to clear up first.

Oct 8
--Teresa Buzzell (VP) requested Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) post the following items ASAP:
1. SMS Position PR Post - approved and ready to go out
2. August Minutes Draft
3. Sept Minutes Draft

-- Jackie Moore (R6) reminded the BOD that the tagging system committee had posted a final proposal on June 20th, and nothing more had occurred on the subject. Teresa Buzzell (VP) apologized for not realizing this proposal had been sitting for so long and requested the BOD offer its thoughts by October 15th.

-- Sharon Mossy (R10) advised that she was still waiting for 2 plaques from NAN, as well as a judge’s T shirt. Teresa Buzzell (VP) made a list of things needed from Yashka before she could be paid her stipend. Teresa asked Carmen Robertson (treas) to request this list and also cc Teresa and Tom Dean (pres) on all email correspondence about the issue. Carmen advised that Yashka also requested a check form, suggesting there were outstanding receipts to be reimbursed as well.

-- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) requested a revised version of the Palm Spring contract be posted to the BOD for review ASAP.

Oct 9
-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) also requested Tom Dean (pres) post the revised contract for review. She also expressed concerns that the contract was not being dealt with in a timely manner and offered to take over. About 30 minutes after Teresa’s post, Tom advised that he had the revised contracts and he would be signing them in the morning. He would also ask Carmen Robertson (treas) to cut a deposit check. Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) advised that the BOD needed to see and approve this revision and asked Tom to not sign it and post the revision to the BOD. Stacy Quick (R1) also asked to see the revised contract.

Oct 10
-- Tom Dean (pres) advised that only the following revisions had been made to the original NAN show hall contract:
“The contract is identical to the original loaded here on 8/26 with 2 changes only...
Primrose A/B $6325 rather than Primrose B/C/D $6050
Security currently decreased 16 hours--this is required by PSCC during setup/teardown with the hours to be adjusted.”

Eleanor Harvey (parl) reminded Tom that it was protocol to run anything financial by the board before any signing. She asked that if the contract was signed to please scan it and upload it to the files, as well as prepare an announcement regarding the dates and other pertinent information. Once that was finished, the BOD needed to move forward in recruiting for NAN positions – Chairs, Registrar, etc. - as well as other items that had been discussed.

Oct 12
-- Tom Dean (pres) stated that the 2014 contract was signed without review, but he would upload the countersigned contract once he had it. He noted that Jim West and Donna and Harvey Stone had offered to serve as registrar and NAN chair, respectively and asked if calls for those posts needed to be made. He also stated he was not in favor of the current hotel contract and offered the following options:
A) reject out of hand
B) counter with no cancellation clause
C) request informal block of rooms with a "NAN" rate
D) ??

Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) reminded Tom that the 2014 venue was for one that had been in use by NAMHSA for several years while Palm Springs was a new venue, and the BOD had the responsibility to review it. She also felt that there did need to be an open call for chair and registrar. Kathy Williams (R2) agreed on opening up a call for registrar and NAN chair, and hoped to find someone with recent experience in running the show as an applicant. She also felt that NAMHSA should not commit to the hotel room contract, and suggested that the hotel be asked to consider a block of rooms at special events pricing. Sharon Mossy (R10) agreed with Kathy. Lynn Weber (R5 and web) also liked the idea of asking for event pricing and not picking up a contract that left NAMHSA responsible for unsold hotel rooms.

Oct 13
-- Tom Dean (pres) requested solicitations for NAN chair and Registrar from Natalie Kilpatrick (PR). He requested a 1 week closing time. Teresa Buzzell (VP) felt a week was too short and suggested a 1 month closing time.

-- Erin Corbett (fund) felt the BOD should loosen restrictions on fantasy equines as currently defined by NAMHSA and allow the entrant to decide if the piece was appropriate or not. Stacy Quick (R1) thought that the definitions for fantasy horses were already fairly broad and that further loosening of the definitions could lead to the requests for other species being added.

-- Erin Corbett (fund) posted a state of the fundraising chair. A discussion about keeping a NAN auction vs just doing year round fundraising continued.

-- Tom Dean (pres) asked Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) to set up a poll for the forum.

Oct 14
-- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) started the following poll:
Should the BOD accept the forum as its official platform for communication?
Please respond:
- yes
- no
- abstain
Please respond by October 20.

-- There was some discussion about logistic of performance showing at NAN.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) advised that per Mary Thompson (the NAN 2015 liaison), enough time had elapsed that the hotel would probably not be willing to offer a block of rooms at this point, and that this could impact potential entrants.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) posted a list of pros and cons to eliminating the NAN auction.
Kathy Williams (R2) agreed that year round fundraising may make more sense, and suggested a monthly auction (the first Saturday of every month, as an example) that people could plan for and expect. This could also resolve the issue of giving artists a hard deadline to have items ready for auction. Sharon Mossy (R10) was also in favor of year round fundraising over an auction.

Oct 15
-- Sandra Gibson (R11) and Jackie Moore (R6) posted in favor of loosening fantasy equine guidelines. Both cited that in their regions, these models were popular and classes for them were filled. Jackie also noted that despite clear guidelines, there was still some confusion about what was legal to show. She specifically noted two models that had shown that did not meet current guidelines.

-- Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) asked when the new Show Secretary would take over the position, and requested an application for the website be created. Teresa Buzzell (VP) suggested having the post start on the first of the year. Natalie later reported that the posting was out.

-- Discussion about holding a NAN auction continued. Sharon Mossy (R10) was in favor of eliminating the live NAN auction. Teresa Buzzell (VP) remind the BOD that auctions were not the only way for the Fundraising Chair to raise money, and that the discussion should focus on holding an auction at NAN or not, not trying to manage the Fundraising post.

Oct 16
-- Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) created a group of standard solicitations for NAMHSA positions.

-- Tom Dean (pres) felt that a 2 week window was plenty for the call for NAN chair and registrar. Teresa Buzzell (VP) felt that a window this short would leave the BOD open to accusations of favoritism and hand picking posts.

-- Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) posted a draft for the Registrar and NAN Chair posts.

Oct 17
-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) advised that the commenting period for the proposed NAMHSA tagging system ended 2 days earlier and asked if that meant that there were no suggested changes and the committee could be allowed to go forward. BOD members replying [Jackie Moore (R6), Annette Dean (R7) and Sharon Mossy (R10)] felt that it did. Jackie asked if a vote needed to be done to decide if the proposal should go out for a membership vote or not.

Oct 18
-- Tom Dean (pres) requested a deadline of 11/15 for the NAN chair and registrar posts.

Oct 20
-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) said that a vote to send the tagging proposal to the membership was required.

-- The following poll closed:
Should the BOD accept the forum as its official platform for communication?
Please respond:
- yes
-Stacy Quick (R1)
-Lindsay Diamond (R4)
-Lynn Weber (R5)
-Niki Hertzog (R9)
-Sharon Mossy (R10)
-Sandra Gibson (R11)
-Teresa Buzzell (VP)
- no
-Kathy WIlliams (R2)
-Jackie Moore (R6)
-Annette Dean (R7)
- abstain
The new forum would be retained as the communications platform for the NAMHSA BOD.
Pauline Entin (R3) posted on October 21 that she was opposed to the forum. This vote was not counted in the official results as it was late.

Oct 21
-- Pauline Entin (R3) also agreed with discontinuing a live NAN auction.

-- Jackie Moore (R6) moved to send the proposed NAMHSA tagging system to the membership for approval. Lindsay Diamond (R4) seconded the motion and discussion began. It was noted that many members had joined to be able to vote on the tagging system.

-- Lynn Weber (R5 and web) asked Tom Dean (pres) if he had gotten back to the hotel about opening up a “soft block” of rooms for NAN 2015. Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) also asked for an official reply. Pauline Entin (R3) asked if the advertised dates were still firm or should be considered tentative.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) asked if there was any way to find out who was still owed a trophy from the 2014 NAN. Sharon Mossy (R10) produced a list of missing trophies, but was not sure who still needed them or of there were any missing names. Regional reps contacted their members on the list to narrow down who was still owed a trophy.

Oct 22
-- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) stated that while in the past NAN entry period was the sole reason for new memberships, several events in the past few years had generated bumps in membership outside of that time period.

--Tom Dean (pres) advised the BOD that Carmen Robertson (treas) had received an envelope from the Palm Spring venue that presumably contained the contract. If it was the contract, it would be scanned and uploaded.
He also reported that he would have more information about the hotel later that day or the next.

-- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) posted the October 1-15 minutes for approval.

-- Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) asked if there was a timeline to allow the general public access to the NAMHSA forum. Lynn Weber (R5 and web) felt that the BOD needed to be more comfortable with it (including on the administration side) before adding more people. Kathy WIlliams (R2) felt her region would not use a new forum and also would not want the NAMHSA-Discussion list to be closed.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) reminded Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) that the following PR posts were needed:
1. SMS Position PR Post - approved and ready to go out
2. August Minutes Draft
3. Sept Minutes Draft

-- Carmen Robertson (trea) advised she had ordered NAN T shirts for those who did not receive one after ordering them during NAN.

Oct 23
-- Tom Dean (pres) uploaded the signed contract for Palm Springs.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) requested that Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) draft posts for the IM Program, one for the odd numbered regions and one for the even numbered regions. She requested them before the end of the month.

-- Danielle Miller (IMS) reminded the BOD that she had proposed a revamp of the membership system and suggested it was time to revisit this idea.

Oct 24
-- Tom Dean (pres) approved the October 1-15 Minutes.

-- Tom Dean (pres) advised that the 2015 NAN dates were confirmed and no longer considered tentative.

Oct 25
-- Jackie Moore (R6) asked if the BOD was ready to vote on offering the database/tagging system to the membership.

Oct 26
-- Chris Wallbruch (MSOTY) asked for an update on the MSOTY winners’ certificates. Teresa Buzzell (VP) replied the following day and said she would work on it.

Oct 27
-- Tom Dean (pres) asked Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) to work on the News drafts.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) asked Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) for PR posts aimed at the Individual Membership program, with one geared to even numbered regions and one to odd numbered regions. She requested this by the end of the month.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) advised that she had received 3 checks from Yashka Hallein (2014 NAN chair) and a request for her stipend. She asked for guidance from the BOD on the stipend.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) offered to move or second the database/tagging system.

Oct 28
-- Eleanor Harvey (parl) asked Erin Corbett (fund) to ask if she needed any help in developing her fund raising plan.

-- Discussion continued on Yahska Hallein (2014 NAN chair) and her stipend. Rewording the policy regarding the pay schedule with specific language as to what was done versus how much would be paid was suggested.

-- Jackie Moore (R6) reminded the BOD that the tagging system had been moved and seconded on 10/21 and there was not much discussion. Eleanor Harvey (parl) advised that Teresa Buzzell (VP) could call for a vote at this point. A successful BOD vote would go to the membership with a timeline for implementation. Jackie replied that she did not believe the program had been written and was waiting on approval before taking that step. She did not have any idea how long it would take to write, beta test and implement.

--Tom Dean (pres) asked Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) to start a poll for the database. Teresa Buzzell (VP) asked the vote be held until clarification on the time line could be acquired. Jackie Moore (R6) asked Teresa to ask Jim West and Jackie/Kira directly as she had difficulty getting either party to respond to posts from the database group.

Oct 29
-- Sharon Mossy (R10) posted an updated list of showers that were owed trophies from the 2014 NAN.

Oct 30
-- Carmen Robertson (treas) moved to make a decision to pay Yashka Hallein (2014 NAN chair) or not.

-- Jackie Moore (R6) advised she had posted the questions Teresa Buzzell (VP) asked to the database group but had not had a reply yet. She felt that the BOD could vote the project up or down now and then work on a timeline as that question may be difficult to give a concrete answer to. Annette Dean (R7) agreed. Niki Hertzog (R9) had further thoughts on the topic.
Jackie agreed with Niki and noted that she was unable to get an answer on initial build costs. Lynn Weber (R5 and web) was also ready to vote but also wanted to know initial costs beforehand.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) posted the September 2014 summary:
September 2014 Summary
Balance in PayPal as of 9/30/2014: 246.53
Balance in BOA checking as of 9/30/2014: 67,384.25
Balance in NAMHSA accounts as of 9/30/2014: 67,630.78

Oct 31
– Discussion continued regarding Yashka Hallein and the Chair stipend with input from Carmen Robertson (treas), Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS), Sandra Gibson (R11), Teresa Buzzell (VP) and Sharon Mossy (R10). Tom Dean (pres) asked what else needed to be submitted, and Lynn Weber (R5 and web) suggested that a specific list of things that the BOD needs be created.

-- Teresa Buzzell (VP) advised that she had heard from Jim West about the tagging system and been advised that he and Jackie/Kira were “tinkering” with it. She advised that she would ask about startup costs prior to a vote. Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) asked if the vote was being formally tabled until this information was available. Tom Dean (pres) suggested going to vote now and advise the roll out schedule was dependent on the committee. Jackie pointed out that several voting members had asked to delay vote until they knew startup costs.

-- Carmen Robertson (treas) posted the third quarter financial report

-- Erin Corbett (fund) asked if there needed to be a formal vote on holding a 2015 NAN auction or not. If not, she was going to ask Natalie Kilpatrick (PR) to create a post to ask for donations, and make a list of planned sales pieces.

Hello!
I apologize for missing the Sept Region 3 Report. As a consequence, this is a two month report.
Back on August 16 (when it was still hot!) Teresa Fedak held the Red Devil Live OF China OF Stone plus Custom Glaze Show. Teresa reported that the show ran smoothly, showcasing many gorgeous horses. Teresa herself judged china and she commented that the turnout was amazing and that she had a very difficult time picking only one horse to be first in each class! Teresa sends her thanks to the showers and the people who helped her run the show.
In September, Teresa Candelaria hosted two of her OWSS (one woman show series) shows. The first was an all-Stone show on August 2. Teresa said she had seven entrants and they kept the judging table full. The show moved quickly and finished up by 3 pm (how nice, hu?). Teresa, always one for creative and utilitarian awards, gave out Tiki shot glasses filled with Skittles for the championships. Teresa's second September show was the all-Breyer rendition on Sept 27. This show had six entrants. In the mid-afternoon, a big thunderstorm hit Phoenix and one of the entrants had to move a downed tree off the street! Teresa's next show in the series is the all-china affair on October 19.
The other show in the Region in October was Nancy Dement's well known and always exciting High Country Live on Sept 14. I regret I don't have a report from this show to share. I would love to hear about it!
Coming up we have the aforementioned all-china show in Phoenix on October 19, and a combination of two complimentary shows in Tucson on October 26. Tucson Mountain Live is an all-halter show hosted by Pat McDonald and Ghost Town Showdown is an all-performance show hosted by Deb and Danielle Ash. Teresa Candelaria's November OWSS show is for Artist Resins.
There are also two shows, one for minis and one for classic scale and smaller chinas planned for Arizona in December (actually a nice time of year in Phoenix ans Tucson!).
Well, enjoy the frost on the pumpkin everyone!

Also on October 11th is the 3rd Annual Jackson County 4-H and Open Model Horse Show in Black River Falls, WI. Deb Johnson has hosted this show and it's always a hit!
Just 2 weeks later, 2 more shows! The Sinewa Model Horse Show in Valders, WI, hosted by Greg Stebnitz, this is an all halter show. South Dakota hosts a show with Black Hills Model Horse Show in Rapid City. Debbie Vick is the contact for this show.
Central Plains Live and Black Hills are both qualified for the Breyer Benefit program and Breyer's Lioness!!
Two shows to note in November so far. On November 1st, Jessica Vance is hosting Harvest Fall Feast Live in Colfax, IA. On November 22nd, the annual Crystal Creek Riders Double Judged Fall Show is held in Randolph, WI.
Good luck to all attending any of the upcoming shows!! Please visit the Region 4 Facebook page and post pictures if you have them from the shows!

September brought Region 5 Labor Day Live, Mid Kansas All Mini Halter Show, and Hooftoberfest. All shows were well attended. Labor Day Live had three new showers out of the ten there, those are pretty good odds! Mid Kansas had a SM painting challenge which is being used as a fundraiser for their Junior/Novice show in October. Hooftoberfest was in a larger room than last year and looking to increase size again in the future.

October started off with OK Model Horse Live, a new show held by Lyn Norbury. Our next two shows will be in November. November 1 we have Mid Ark Model Horse Expo in Greenbrier, AR held by Tracy Rogalla and the following weekend we have a two day show, Silver Spur Live on the Bayou in Sulphur, LA held by Charlotte D. Martin and Renee Jordan.

Region 6 Report
Hello All!
There were no shows in Region 6 in September, but October begins with two shows in the first two weekends!
The 27th Annual Southern Model Horse Convention will be held October 4 in Covington, GA at Laura Behning's Brookridge Morgans. This is a show the region looks forward to every year!
And a brand new show, Haunted Horses, will be held October 11 in Orlando, FL, to benefit the Orange County 4-H.
Both shows were selected for the Breyer Benefit Program! Congratulations, and good luck to all entrants!
November will start off with Palmetto State Live in Irmo, SC on November 8, and will end with Rockin' Redneck Roundup Live in Kissimmee, FL on November 29. See you at the shows!

Region 7 Report
Fall is here and the leaves are turning colors now. The cooler weather is setting in and from what people are saying, it's suppose to be a cold winter ! Region 7 had two shows in September. There was Treaty City Live in Greenville Ohio hosted by Kay Callahan and Classy Chassis Live in Knoxville, TN hosted by Jen Dodd.
Treaty City Live was well attended and raised money for the local Animal Shelter. The horses on the tables were gorgeous and the competition was tough. Everyone had a great time and the venue was spacious with room to move around. We look forward to seeing this show again next year.
Upcoming shows for Region 7:
Oct 11 - Quarter Horse Congress show in Columbus, OH
Nov 1 - Tri State Live in Maumee, OH
Nov 1-2 - Clinky Classic 5 in Dandridge, TN

Where does the time go?
Illinois brought us the last of No Frills for a couple months. I had the pleasure of judging the OF division and seeing many pretty models, and meeting lots of new faces. It's kinda neat seeing the new generation of model horse showers, especially when I just started around a decade ago (WHOA- where did THAT time go?!).
And I love themed shows- if they didn't cost an arm and a leg and I had a *little* bit more creativity, I would do more with my own show But who woulda thunk SPACE!? Awesome job to 45th Parallel Live's futuristic show on the 20th. This was held at Sue's house- how cool is that? We need to have more shows like that around the region. And what a full classlist she had. Congrats!
Still no shows in Missouri
Next month is the highly anticipated Halloween show Karen Zorn is hosting, the annual Stone Mini show, and No Frills Youth show! I don't want any show season to end!

Albany Area Regional Performance and Halter shows were held this past weekend (10/5, 10/6) and had a wonderful turnout. https://www.facebook.com/groups/243235197471/
There are two more shows in October:
New England Performance Challenge, being held October 18 in Spencer, MA. If you're a performance shower, here's another chance for you to get out there and have a blast!
Vermont Live Model Horse Show, being held October 26 in Williston, VT. This show is for novices and intermediates. Ever thought about showing - this is the show to start at!
And November brings us The Region X Championships, being held November 8-9 in Albany, NY. This is our year-end show, and a must-go! It features two shows in one, really - with an Open Division and the Stakes Classes.
