NAMHSA - December 1-31, 2013 News

NAMHSA News for the period of December 1-31, 2013 based on the minutes compiled by Jackie Arns, Recording Secretary.

DECEMBER 1 --------------------------------------------------

The poll to elect the new Merit Award Coordinator closed with Dayle Steinke as the winner.

The poll to elect the new Registrar was still running after 2 weeks after being programmed to only run for 5 days. When Jackie Arns-Rossi attempted to close the poll early it deleted all votes. Because of this the BOD was asked to manually reply with all of their votes.

The poll to elect the new Registrar was closed with Jim West as the winner.

DECEMBER 2 --------------------------------------------------

Dayle Steinke was notified of her new position with NAMHSA.

DECEMBER 4 --------------------------------------------------

Carra McClelland posted another draft of the NAN Judge Procedure.

DECEMBER 8 --------------------------------------------------

A region 7 member who wanted to align her rules with NAN, requested information regarding 'no jumping horses in non-jumping classes,' and 'no harness horses in parade,' etc. It was ultimately concluded that this was at the show holder's discretion, however, jumping horses in non-jumping classes had placed at NAN, previously.

DECEMBER 10 --------------------------------------------------

A region 7 member on Facebook was submitting NAN Cards for Merit Awards and stumbled across a card that had no results listed on NAMHSA's web site. After a lengthy investigation it was deemed that this show had been held during a time when not all results were submitted digitally, if at all, and that the exhibitor would be allowed to submit cards from this show for NAMHSA Merit Awards.

DECEMBER 13 --------------------------------------------------

A poll to accept new protocol for NAN judges to ensure a horse was in the appropriate class was created.

DECEMBER 20 --------------------------------------------------

The poll to accept new protocol for NAN judges to ensure a horse was in the appropriate class was closed with all 11 members accepting the new verbiage.

DECEMBER 27 --------------------------------------------------

The announcement of Dayle Steinke becoming the new NAMHSA Merit Award Coordinator was made live.

REGIONAL REPORTS --------------------------------------------------

REGION 1 -------------------------
November brought only one show to the region, Calliope Mini Live, held by Amy Peck in Kent, WA. It is an all mini show, & these shows are usually laid back & a lot of fun to just chat.

With the weather & mountain passes in the region, there aren't any more shows until January. That will be another fun show hosted by Amy Peck, Ring in the New Year on January 25th.

March will bring us the first ever Card Shark Live held in Walla Walla, WA & hosted by first time show holder Bethany Shaw on Sunday March 23rd. It's really exciting to see all the new people holding shows in our area!

Stay Warm!!

REGION 2 -------------------------

The Holiday season was kicked off on December 7th, 2013, when Jane Morehouse hosted her WACCO (Workmanship & Collectability Classes Only) in San Martin, CA. This show included the area's Christmas Party and the Naughty Santa Ornament Gift Exchange, which was a lot of fun with ornaments being "stolen" back and forth! The Luncheon Potluck was great with lots of yummy food and desserts. We were all stuffed like Santa and in a Holiday mood by the end of the show!

REGION 4 -------------------------
Winter greetings! Region 4 is getting active in Wisconsin!

On January 11 the Milwaukee County Horse/Horseless is happening in Oak Creek and on April 5 Brenda Metcalf will again be hosting the Pie Show. There are rumors that the Sleigh Rally Show will be applying for NAMHSA status soon and is scheduled for February 8 in Columbus.

Meanwhile in Iowa, Dream Acres Live will be applying for NAMHSA approval and is scheduled for March 29 in Parkersburg. This is a long running show that always has a great turnout! One that I hope to be attending, by the way! See you there.

REGION 5 -------------------------
The cold winter weather has finally settled in for the season making travel almost impossible to plan. Fortunately our shows held in November had nice weather and the beautiful fall colors were all around.

What a pleasant drive it was to Greenbriar, AR for Mid Ark Model Horse Expo. The fall colors were spectacular! The show was held on Nov. 2nd., hosted by Tracy Rogalla. It was a great show, a super class list, and lots of fun as always!

Congratulations to Kaitlin Mitchell on her win of Zuni, the special donation model from Breyer. Kaitlin is a youth shower and was so excited (to put it lightly) to have won.

Cajun Country Live was also held on Nov. 2nd and 3rd in Vinton, LA., hosted by Jennifer Moore. I am told by many that it was a huge success all the way around. Jennifer usually cooks up a real Cajun Country meal for the show that is second to none.

Congratulations to Renee Jordan who won the Breyer Zuni at CCL! I am told this was Renee's first live show to attend. Welcome to the hobby, Renee!

There are no shows slated for December in Region 5, but everyone is looking forward to A Midwinter's Night Ball In Georgetown, TX in January. Mini Moos in Irving, TX and 28 Days After Christmas in Oklahoma City, OK are scheduled for February.

Keep warm!

REGION 6 -------------------------
Hello All!

There were two shows in Region 6 in November.

Palmetto State Live was held November 16th in Jenkinsville, SC. Beth Patterson submitted this show report:
"Lisa Garcia and her volunteers and husband managed to pack a large amount of fun and great horses into a small space and make it comfortable for all.

There were a total of 13 entrants but the competition was fierce in most of the divisions. Placings were done down to 6th place and very few classes in the AR/CM or OF Plastic divisions didn't have at least 6 or 7 horses entered.

The China, Novice and Fun classes were more sparsely populated but still produced top quality winners. The Fun classes got even funner once we realized the prizes were cash! Next time someone asks if there is any money in showing, the answer is now YES.

Roberto Garcia judged the "theme" tables... and delivered lunch! His potato soup is wonderful, I recommend it! Almost a stew, and very filling.

There was also the chance to tour the historic church which is the setting for the show; its a beautiful building! The heat worked really well too which means the next rendition of Palmetto State, scheduled for January 18th, should be another winner."

November 30 saw the third Rockin' Redneck Roundup Live in Kissimmee, FL. Show hostess Lori Daniels and her daughter Caitlin put on another fantastic show! This show is a total blast; if you haven't made it to this show yet, you should definitely put it on your list. Lunch is provided and everyone brings so many scrumptious sweet treats for the cookie exchange. Definitely the most delicious show in the region!

There are no shows scheduled in Region 6 in December, and two shows scheduled for January: Palmetto State Live in Jenkinsville, SC on Jan 18 and a fun show scheduled in Columbiana, AL onJan 25. Coming up in February and March are: All The Pretty Ponies Live in Gainesville, FL on Feb 8, Palms and Ponies Live in Apopka, FL on Feb 2223, and Carolina Gold Classic in Monroe, NC on March 8.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season, and see you at the shows!

REGION 7 -------------------------
Well the cold weather has finally set in for us in Region 7. We have had a few snow storms come our way this past month.

For November we had two shows. Tri State Live in Maumee, OH hosted by Dee Majors on November 2nd\ and the Miami Valley Live Shows: the Big Show II hosted by Hilary Rossow and 2.5 hosted by Kay Callahan.

We had a chance to attend the MVL shows and what a blast. These shows benefited the Darke County Humane Society. There were a lot of attendees and we had awesome eye candy with lots of great horses to view. It was great to visit with all our friends and have a good time. We had some snowy/icy weather the night in between the shows but we got back to the show hall as planned. All in all, a great weekend.

No shows planned for December, but in January on the 25th, we have the 5th Annual New Year’s Bash Live in Ashland, OH coming up.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays

REGION 8 -------------------------
Happy December in Region 8!

November brought our region two shows. First up was Meows and Minis, hosted by me on November 2nd. This is one of the longest running shows in Illinois and all of the proceeds go to Cat Guardians, a no-kill, non for profit, cageless cat shelter in Illinois. Over the past 12 years, over $30,000 has been raised for the kitties! The competition was very stiff and everyone had a great time. The second show was on November 9th, and was the Michigan Showplace Spectacular, hosted by Donnalee Pontius. The Michigan shows always have plenty of beautiful horses to see, and this show was no exception! By all accounts, it was a wonderful day.

The 2014 show season is already starting to get lined up, so mark your calendars for the following shows:

February 22, 2014: GLC No-Frills Show in Huntley, IL. Contact: Lisa Esping.
