2013 Member Show of the Year Committee
It's time to nominate yourself as a member of the 2013 NAMHSA Member Show of the Year committee. The committee needs one person from each region to read the nomination forms for various member shows in contention for MSOTY. Plus, we are looking for someone to serve as the committee head.
Please submit your name only if you can commit to the required time to read all of the nominations as well as discuss them and then vote. This period will run from May 22nd to June 10th, with the final vote concluded by June 10th.
The committee chair is looking for experienced show holders, entrants and judges that can fairly evaluate a show without bias.
Please submit your name by May 10th, along with which region you're from and a general idea of how many years you've been attending shows and how many (exact numbers aren't needed, but a rough idea will let me know how experienced you are in regards to shows).
Please send all information to and whether you would like to chair or just be your region's representative on the committee to:
Teresa Buzzell, NAMHSA President, email@example.com
NAMHSA is looking for someone to fill the position of Fundraising Coordinator. This position will be for two years, starting in 2013 - with the initial term to expire at NAN 2015, term thereafter to be 2 years. This position is eligible for re-appointment.
NAMHSA is in need of someone to head up our fundraising efforts on a year round basis. This person will be a non-voting BOD member and will be required to host a fundraising event quarterly, working towards a BOD mandated monetary goal for the year. The BOD will have final approval over all events and will provide brainstorming (including a list of options already developed), sounding board and other means of support as deemed necessary on an event by event basis. If desired by the winning candidate, a BOD member can be appointed in an official mentoring capacity. The coordinator may select a staff of one helper, pending BOD approval.
The monetary goal for the March 2013 - NAN 2014 time period is $10,000.
The position will require someone who can be online and visible to both the BOD and the hobby public at large on a daily basis and communicate with both in a respectful, courteous and prompt manner. A successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, organized, well-written/spoken and have excellent event planning skills. Previous marketing and/or advertising experience will be considered to be a plus. A good working knowledge of MS Office - especially Excel and Word will be required, as well as good monetary handling procedures.
Monthly reports to the BOD for inclusion in the NAMHSA News will be required as well as any requested update made by a voting BOD member. All events will need to be run in a legal manner for the state/county/country they are occurring.
This is a paid position, with the opportunity for results based bonuses, to be paid at the end of each 12 month fundraising cycle. (First payment would be after NAN 2014.) The base is $300 a year. The BOD will set a fundraising minimum and goal each year, based on previous efforts, estimates and potential opportunity. If the yearly goal is made, an $100 bonus will be paid. If the fundraising efforts exceed 125% of the year's goal, an additional $150 will be paid. Any efforts exceeding 150% of goal will be paid an additional $200. (The maximum payment to be equal to $500.)
If the goal is not met, the BOD reserves the right to review the fundraising coordinator's efforts or may reconsider the goal. Staff and helpers are not eligible for payment but may be given preference if applying for the position in the future.
Interested parties should send their application to Teresa Buzzell, NAMHSA President at : firstname.lastname@example.org with name, contact information, a paragraph stating your qualifications for the position and a small list of potential fundraising ideas. Applications that do not contain all requested items may be disregarded by the BOD.
Thank you for your interest in NAMHSA!
Volunteer Call for NAN 2013!
Are you looking for a way to be a part of the action in June? Not interested in showing but want to see the horses and be a part of the show from somewhere other than the visitors' corral?
Then you're just the person we're looking for. The North American Nationals is the biggest model horse show in the United States and it needs an army to run efficiently! Most positions do not require direct hobby involvement and would be perfect for that bored spouse, relative, or friend traveling with you to NAN. Or, if you're only showing one or two of the three days, we can always use a pair of hands on the days you're not showing. No one is turned away and you are not required to commit to a full three days of involvement.
Our volunteers are thanked with a t-shirt, lunch, and a helper plaque.
At present there are a number of positions available. We have a brief form where you can outline your skills and any restrictions you have on lifting or being on your feet. We hope to use that information to fit individuals to the best jobs possible.
For more information or questions, contact Niki Hertzog at NANChair@namhsa.org with the subject line NAN Volunteer. To apply to be a volunteer, we have a handy form this year. It will go to the appropriate person when you hit submit.
You can find this form at: http://www.namhsa.org/nan2013/volunteer_form.htm.
Volunteers will be solicited until we have our small army.
