NAMHSA - November 1-30, 2013 News

NAMHSA News for the period of November 1-30, 2013 based on the minutes compiled by Jackie Arns-Rossi, Recording Secretary.

NOVEMBER 1 --------------------------------------------------
Discussion regarding proper judge etiquette while handling horses entered in the wrong class continued.

NOVEMBER 2 --------------------------------------------------
Tom Dean advised the BOD of four applicants for the Merit Awards Coordinator position, but because Yahoo! wiped out two of the emails he was waiting for two applicants to resend their information.

NOVEMBER 3 --------------------------------------------------
Discussions on whether or not to allow Thestrals to show in fantasy began. Some members cited that Thestrals were, in short, horses without skin and muscles, whereas some members argued that they are not, but a completely separate species from pegasi.

NOVEMBER 4 --------------------------------------------------
Lynn Weber updated the Show Membership Core Classlist to reflect unicorns and pegasi in collectibility and workmanship.

Carra McClelland asked Jackie to write up a poll to allow the admittance of skeletal pegasi (thestrals) through NAN qualification.

NOVEMBER 5 --------------------------------------------------
The poll to change NAN rosette colors closed with 3 no votes, 6 yes votes (but to defer the color change to 2015) and 0 abstained.

NOVEMBER 7 --------------------------------------------------
Tom Dean advised that he had received one applicant for 2014 NAN Auction Chair.

NOVEMBER 8 --------------------------------------------------
A poll to amend the fantasy guidelines to allow thestrals was started.

Carra McClelland advised the BOD that she had received a NAN 2015 bid in physical form, but, however, it was severely lacking in information. She would eventually scan the documents received and upload them as a PDF to the BOD's files.

NOVEMBER 10 --------------------------------------------------
Niki Hertzog brought forth a question from a show holder asking if the show holder would be penalized by rescheduling a show due to inclement weather. The only problem found would be if the show was rescheduled for after May 1 in which new NAN cards would need to be issued. Amy Peck would later clarify that the show holder needs to clarify the original scheduled date and the revised date. The revised date must be at least 60 days out to allow ample time for NAMHSA to make necessary changes.

NOVEMBER 11 --------------------------------------------------
Erin Corbett submitted a list of donations that had been committed ranging from models, tack, bodies and TBD items.

NOVEMBER 13 --------------------------------------------------
Tom Dean supplied the BOD with four resumes for Merit Award Coordinator.

The poll to amend the fantasy guidelines to allow thestrals ended with 4 votes for no, 4 votes for yes and 1 abstained (2 votes had been lost by Yahoo and were not recorded). Because this was a tie poll, Carra McClelland submitted the tie-breaking Yes vote.

Carra McClelland uploaded the lone NAN 2015 bid scan to the BOD's folders for review.

NOVEMBER 15 --------------------------------------------------
Discussions regarding the 2014 NAN Auction Chair began.

NOVEMBER 16 --------------------------------------------------
Discussions regarding the 2014 NAN Registrar began.

NOVEMBER 18 --------------------------------------------------
A poll to elect the 2014 NAN Registrar was created.

Discussions regarding the 2014 NAN Chair began.

NOVEMBER 20 --------------------------------------------------
A poll to elect the 2014 NAN Chair was created.

NOVEMBER 25 --------------------------------------------------
A poll to elect the next Merit Award Coordinator was created.

A member of Region 5 posted to N-D asking if show advertising on Facebook was allowed since Facebook users are able to block other Facebook users, making for potentially exclusive shows. The Region 5 Rep took control of the situation immediately to avoid any problems.

NOVEMBER 26 --------------------------------------------------
The poll to elect the 2014 NAN Chair ended. Yashka Hallein was approved 11-0. Carra McClelland notified Yashka and she was added to the BOD's email list.

The Region 5 Rep posted a response to the Board concerning the original N-D question from November 25.

NOVEMBER 27 --------------------------------------------------
The poll to elect the 2014 NAN Auction Chair ended. Niki Hertzog was approved 10-0-1.

REGIONAL REPORTS --------------------------------------------------
REGION 1 -------------------------
October brought much horse showing to the region. The month started out with Atomic City Live on Sat the 5th in Pasco, WA. There were about 35 showers/judges & Stone horses had sales models available.

The end of the month brought 2 shows in the same weekend, Spooky Live & Northwest Congress. Spooky Live is held on Sat the 26th in St. Helens, OR. Northwest Congress in Kent, WA is the largest show for our region, held over 2 days with a division for almost everything. Over 50 entrants/judges & really competitive.

As winter approaches, showing comes to near halt in our region until spring. The heavy mountain snows make travelling difficult sometimes. There is one show in November in Kent, WA held by Amy Peck.

REGION 2 -------------------------
Recent Shows:

October 12, 2013: Sleepy Hollow Live was held in LaVerne, CA. Suzanne Francis was our showholder and all reports are unanimous that she did a wonderful job! Everyone raved about how well the show was run even though this was Suzie's first time as a showholder. We loved the competition, the hall, the food, the prizes and the seamless way the show ran. Everyone is up for next year!

Upcoming Shows:

Gold Country Model Horse Show was planned for November 23rd but had to be rescheduled due to a conflict in reservations at the showhall. The new date will be February 89, 2014. GCMHS be hosted by Robin Kent and Marie Sobieski in Davis, CA. This will be the 11th year for Gold Country! Congratulations, Robin & Marie! It's a big 2 day show with classes for everyone! The Holiday season will be kicked off on December 7th, 2013, when Jane Morehouse will host her WACCO (Workmanship & Collectability Classes Only) in San Martin, CA. This show includes the area's Christmas Party and the Naughty Santa Ornament Gift Exchange, which is always a lot of fun! There are also fun classes (NonNAN) that are all ChristmasThemed. REGION 5 -------------------------
It is getting cooler in the region showing signs of the fall season coming on. The trees are just beginning to change colors, mowing the lawn will soon be a thing of the past for this year.

October brought Model Horse Expo 2013 to Region 5. Always a good show, nicely competitive. Due to a death in the family I had to cancel out on going to this show, but was told it was a big success. It was hosted by Jessica Geer in Wichita Falls, TX, on October 12th.

November holds a promise of the simply delicious Cajun Country Live hosted by Jennifer Moore and ever popular MidArk Live Model Horse Expo hosted by Tracy Rogalla. Make plans to attend your favorite of these two shows as they will both be held on the same weekend.

Going to be pretty chilly by then, but the fall colors should be in full array!

REGION 6 -------------------------
Hello All!

October 5th saw the 26th (yes, 26th!) Annual Southern Model Horse Convention at Laura Behning's Brookridge Morgans in Covington, GA. It was another wonderful show with Laura's Morgan horses providing the ideal backdrop. This is a show not to be missed!

October 19th was a 4H fun show in Raleigh, NC to benefit the US Equine Rescue League. Many thanks to Beth Patterson, Fletcher Patterson, and Maggie Bennett for helping make this show a huge success and fostering the young collectors in the area.

There are two shows scheduled for November:

Nov 16, Palmetto State Live in Jenkinsville, SC
Nov 30, Rockin' Redneck Roundup Live in Kissimmee, FL

And there are several shows lined up for 2014 already! We are all looking forward to it!

See you at the shows!

REGION 8 -------------------------
Happy fall! The trees have turned a brilliant shade of red in celebration of the fine shows happening in Region 8! Two wonderful shows took place in October in our illustrious region. First off was The Little Horse Show in Shipshewana on October 5th. This show is run by the Stone Company, and as always, it was very well attended with 26 entrants and solid classes. If you have never traveled to Shipshewana, I highly recommend you stop by and immerse yourself in some lovely Amish atmosphere! The second show was the next in the Models and Milkshakes series up in Michigan. It's great to see a regular show series taking place in Michigan, especially one that has been met with such enthusiasm by the entrants! I foresee great things happening with this series!

We aren't quite done with the show season here in Region 8! Rounding up 2013 is the following show (which is sold out at the time of me typing this up)...

December 7, 2013: Great Lakes Congress NoFrills Show in Huntley, IL. Contact: Liz Cory (GLC Inc).

As always, if you have any questions, suggestions, comments, or criticism, send it my way to wombats@earthlink.net. Happy showing!
