North American Nationals (NAN)

Information for First Time NAN Showers from the Registrar 5/13/14

Thinking about coming to NAN?

Will this be your first time at NAN?

Some info for you...

NAN - North American Nationals. Where the cream of the crop come to compete.

NAN is a 3-day show. Each day is essentially treated as single show. There is no carry over from one day to the next.

Where you sit on Day 1 may NOT be the same place you sit on Day 2. You will have assigned table(s) for the days you are showing. Please do not leave anything of value overnight. One, we cannot be held responsible if anything goes missing and two, you may not be sitting in the same place the following day.

NAN is NOT like your "typical" member shows.

Show Hall will open at 7am. First classes will be called at 8am.

Each class will only be open for FIVE (5) MINUTES. Period. No exception. Yes, we do know who will be in each class. We will NOT wait for you NOR will we go hunt you down if you are not in your class at closing. It's very important that you pay attention to the classes being called.

Once a class is closed, the steward of that class will then inform the Head Steward / Judges and the class will be judged. The stewards take the score sheets from each judge and bring them to me directly. I enter the placings and print the results page. This page is then brought to the podium for announcement. Once the top X models have been announced, showers will only have a few minutes to retrieve their models from the ring.

If a shower does NOT remove their models in a timely manner, those models WILL be brought to the Pony Pound (usually located near me) so that we can call the next class.

The pace is quick. Again, this is NOT your typical member show. Things do move along quickly. This is all done to ensure that we can be done by midnight each day. Day 1 and Day 2 tend to go long and being done between 8pm and 9pm is not all that uncommon. There is no specified end time nor will we guarantee finishing time.

We do NOT break for lunch so you will need to plan accordingly.

Dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes. The Show Hall is rather large and you will put in some mileage with all the walking you'll do. The temps will change through out the day so dressing in layers will help. It's usually pretty chilly in the morning and will heat up during the day.

Once the last class results have been announced, showers will have 30 minutes to pack and head out. Once a shower is finished showing for the day, they may leave if they so desire.

Judges are sequestered. There is to be NO INTERACTION between showers and judges. Period. If you are done showing for the day and you choose to stay, you are not allowed to interact with any judge.

Showers may ONLY be near the rings when they are placing or retrieving models. There will be NO loitering or observing in the rings by showers. The stewards will all have been issued whips and tasers to ensure that this does not happen.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at nanregistrar@namhsa.org and I will endeavor to provide the answers you seek.

Clear skies,
Jim West
