Lot 3:

A Wood Wiz Meadowbrook Cart Kit (circa 2000) and a copy of Guide to Making Model Horse Tack by Susan Bensema Young of the Timaru Star II.

Michelle Huskins, the "Wood Wiz," was marketing various kits for model Tilbury Gigs, Draft Road Carts and Meadowbrooks around 1997-2001, as well as producing beautiful model sleighs. (She is no longer in business.) Included is the kit, a copy of her catalog, full instructions for the Meadowbrook and two pages of notes, drawings and clarifications by Susan, who assembled one of these kits in 1999. The catalog says: "Our outstanding traditional Meadowbrook is made of wood with shaped shafts and black plastic wheels. Metal parts are photo-etched, upholstery is leather. Over 100 nuts and bolts are used! The most accurate and detailed Meadowbrook available. A very versatile vehicle, used for pleasure driving, showing Draft horses, and competition driving. Kit features pre-drilled wood parts and hardware. You need supply a few tools and a few hours."

Photos shown are examples of an assembled and customized cart. This lot includes the unassembled kit and does not include dolls, props, horses, or tack. Also included is a copy of the Guide, by premier model tackmaker and author Susan Bensema Young. Published in 1998, the Guide is considered THE reference and authority for all grades of aspiring model tackmakers, from beginner to advanced. Its 222 pages and 55 chapters cover English, Western, halters, braidwork and Harness projects with over 80 illustrations and hand-drawn plates and 9 color pages. Especially of interest for this donation, the Guide is considered particularly useful for its detailed harness instruction. Making a breastcollar harness is covered thoroughly in three model levels of skill (beginner, intermediate and advanced) with patterns, measurements and clear instructions. The Guide also delves into making a Draft Collar and Draft harness, in case you are inspired to carry on with the great pleasure of driving the model horse.
