North American Nationals (NAN)

NAN 2014 Auction

The NAN Auction will be run on a different format than it has in previous years. Auctions will be online and will start shortly before NAN. They will run until Thursday (7/10) between 6:00 and 8:40 PM EST.

Auction lots will be updated as information and photos come in from donors. When the auctions go live, links will also be provided to bid. Announcements will also be sent via all official communications channels when the auctions are ready for bidding.

The auctions will end in 10 minute intervals to allow bidders to concentrate on one auction at a time. Scheduled end times are listed within each lot's information below. In the event of item cancellation, the following bid will still end at its scheduled time, it will not move up time slots.

Auction lots will be available for viewing during all three days of NAN in the NAN show hall. They will also be available for viewing in the Artisans' Gallery on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 11:00.

Winning bidders who are in Kentucky must pay for and pick their items up in person at the Artist's Gallery. Bidders who are not present will be invoiced for their final bid and shipping charges after the auction. Bidders who will not be in Kentucky must pay via paypal. Those picking up in person may pay by cash or paypal. International bidders are welcome and will be invoiced for exact shipping. Items will be shipped priority and will be listed as goods with the final auction value declared. Winning bidders will be responsible for any and all additional fees this may cause.

Bids

Final bids will be updated as soon as all payments have been processed and the final list is available. Auction Coordinator Niki Hertzog is in the process of getting shipping/insurance quotes and sending invoices. As lots are paid for she will contact artists with partial donations to get information on where they would like their money sent. Those artists with lots marked with pending amounts will be contacted as soon as she unpacks the bidding sheets and confirms the final bids, which should be by July 18.

A Wood Wiz Meadowbrook Cart Kit (circa 2000) and a copy of Guide to Making Model Horse Tack by Susan Bensema Young of the Timaru Star II.

Lot 3
Michelle Huskins, the "Wood Wiz," was marketing various kits for model Tilbury Gigs, Draft Road Carts and Meadowbrooks around 1997-2001, as well as producing beautiful model sleighs. (She is no longer in business.) Included is the kit, a copy of her catalog, full instructions for the Meadowbrook and two pages of notes, drawings and clarifications by Susan, who assembled one of these kits in 1999. The catalog says: "Our outstanding traditional Meadowbrook is made of wood with shaped shafts and black plastic wheels. Metal parts are photo-etched, upholstery is leather. Over 100 nuts and bolts are used! The most accurate and detailed Meadowbrook available. A very versatile vehicle, used for pleasure driving, showing Draft horses, and competition driving. Kit features pre-drilled wood parts and hardware. You need supply a few tools and a few hours."

Photos shown are examples of an assembled and customized cart. This lot includes the unassembled kit and does not include dolls, props, horses, or tack. Also included is a copy of the Guide, by premier model tackmaker and author Susan Bensema Young. Published in 1998, the Guide is considered THE reference and authority for all grades of aspiring model tackmakers, from beginner to advanced. Its 222 pages and 55 chapters cover English, Western, halters, braidwork and Harness projects with over 80 illustrations and hand-drawn plates and 9 color pages. Especially of interest for this donation, the Guide is considered particularly useful for its detailed harness instruction. Making a breastcollar harness is covered thoroughly in three model levels of skill (beginner, intermediate and advanced) with patterns, measurements and clear instructions. The Guide also delves into making a Draft Collar and Draft harness, in case you are inspired to carry on with the great pleasure of driving the model horse.

Lot 5:

Extreme Resculpt Unicorn by Jami Bloxham

Lot 5
This is an extreme re-sculpted Peter Stone Arabian into a Unicorn mare. Almost every part on her has been moved and redone. Too many to list. Her base color is a gorgeous Rose Grey and her eyes a light blue. She is hand painted in a fantasy theme mural. Each side is a different scene. The left side depicts a forest with a waterfall/mote scene and a castle on the far side of its banks. As a subject, the handsome prince is courting his princess while his trusty steed awaits his return. For her other side, a moonlight night unfolds. Underneath the moon, a beautiful Gazebo sets on the edge of the forest where a fairy mushroom ring is the center of a fairy gathering. The misty forest conceals the flying fairies flocking to the ring. It is hard to see, but each fairy trails bit of fairy dust and sprinkled it among the roses that connect the two scenes as well as the Silvery moon. This Unicorn is sealed in a Satin Matte finish and appropriate areas glossed. This is a one of a kind piece and will not be reproduced. She is of my own design and is signed/dated by me, Jami Bloxham.

Lot 6:

Sarah Rose's "Andre" as a Belgian Stallion in Dappled Chestnut. Airbrushed Acrylic with hand-painted detail.

Lot 6
Andre is an exciting new traditional scale sculpture from Sarah Rose! He is a big boy, standing at 7 1/4" at the wither, which would be a bit over 16 hands if he were a real horse. At his tallest point he is 10" and is approximately 12 1/2" long from the back of his right rear leg to the tip of his cute wrinkle nose! Andre is meant to depict a heavy European draft horse of no specific breed. These stout and chunky horses were the original tractors. He could represent a variety of breeds including the Ardennes, Breton, old style Belgian, heavy type of Comtois, and others. A post with a section about this body type can be found on the Rose Studios Blog. Andre is traditional scale, and is hollow cast in artist's quality urethane resin with steel reinforced legs by Rose Studios.

Pixel Andalusian/PRE sculpted by Morgen Kilbourn, Finishwork by Sue R. Sudekum.

Lot 15
Bay semi-leopard Spanish Jennet stallion. Hand-painted in acrylic paint with pastel shadings. Detailing includes mapping around spots, roaning, mixed mane and tail, tri-colored eyes, striped hooves, mottled skin. Coated with a matte acrylic finish. Eyes, nostrils and hooves glossed.

Pixel was sculpted by Morgen Kilbourn and is 2.5 inches tall at the tippity tip of his mane, by 4 inches long. This wee 2013 Limited Time edition sculpture is of a feisty Andalusian stallion feeling his oats! Inspired by countless beautiful liberty acts and the wonderful photography Morgen has fallen in love with over the years, he comes to you now ready to snort and toss his head and charm your imagination next! This is her smallest work to date and it took a lot of attitude to make the details stand out at this scale. Yet despite his bravado he remains loveable somehow and is certainly less intimidating in the palm of your hand!
